Surfing lessons..... for kids or ?

Monday, I think it was the 20th of February.  One tends to forget about dates and time after a while.  Seems like an impossibility when caught up in the routine and finely timed / tuned schedule of a normal day back in what we call life.

Anyway, back to Monday the 20th, Kids and Frik have committed to learning how to surf.  Me, I'm out of action for another 2 weeks and its burning a hole in me, pure frustration.  We arrive at the surf school and the first thing that goes through my mind is "oh my gosh, I hope my kids never look like that..."  Surfers, they just look, well, a bit different.  Again, I was reminded never to judge a book by it's cover.  Our instructor has a degree in psychology and is holding down 3 jobs in order to pay for his Masters degree.

Lesson begins with a bit of theory on waves, wind and currents etc.  Boy, kids are fast learners.  I thought it would take a couple of falls and spills before they could actually stand - not a chance, first wave and both  of them are standing on the board.  For the next 2 hours they continued to enjoy the waves with a bit of help from the instructor.  A few spills and a fat lip for Cameron later, they are hooked.  Wet suits are now being packed for our 3 months in Australia.

Frik, well..... he really tried, and tried, and tried some more.  Ofcourse, he has a few things holding him back such as age and we won't mention the weight. (At leasts is down from the Bungi weight). Standing came slowly for him, as the board kept on sinking!!!...however, being Frik, he did not give up.  I reckon if he becomes addicted to a good habit he can surf all he wants.  My turn is still coming but I will have to wait until Australia.

Here's proof of the fishing.... Cameron and a shark from our beach. Jodi with a Carp on the Breede River.

For those that have not seen the new deck - here's a preview.
